BIENNIAL CHECK

Our two-year check includes our all-round service!

SWING paragliders must be inspected at least every 24 months or 150 flights/flight hours, whichever comes first.

For some models the inspection interval is reduced to 12 months or 100 flights/flight hours (e.g. acro gliders, speed riders, motor gliders for heavy trikes, or competition gliders). The time limits specified for the respective model in the operating instructions are decisive.

Failure to comply with these guidelines will result in the expiry of the operating license as well as the extended SWING warranty, which applies to products registered with SWING.

BIENNIAL CHECK

Your paraglider needs to be professionally checked regularly, so that you can pursue your hobby safely. The two-year check at SWING, is carried out with the utmost care according to strict guidelines and includes scrutinising the condition of all materials. The overall condition of your paraglider is assessed, recorded and attached to your equipment’s CV.

Our biennial check comes with an all-inclusive package. This means that in case of small repairs which are discovered, these will be carried out at the time of the check. If bigger repairs should be necessary, we will of course let you know beforehand and send you a quotation as soon as possible. The trimming of your wing is included in our package too.

SCOPE OF SERVICES

First, we inspect your glider to identify it, using the official manufacturer’s documentation and type certificate.
We check the permeability (porosity) of the fabric using a JDC porosity meter. The meter measures the time (in seconds) which it takes to suck a certain volume of air through the fabric. The shorter the time, the more permeable (porous) the fabric is. This measurement is taken from six areas on the top and bottom surfaces of the glider
The next step is to check the tear resistance of the fabric using a device called a “Bettsometer”. A needle-sized hole is made in the fabric and a weight of 1000g is attached. The fabric must not tear more than 5mm
Now we inspect the top and bottom surfaces of the canopy, panel by panel, for any holes, tears, stretched areas, or areas of wear. Minor damage is repaired immediately. The seams and interior of the glider, cell walls and reinforcement are also thoroughly checked. The glider is shaken out, to remove any sand or other debris which has accumulated inside the cells

After the canopy we check the lines, risers and quicklinks for tears, kinks and wear

In a last step we check first the brake strength of the lines. We break apart two mainlines for this purpose and replace them with new ones. If the values are within tolerance we then start with trimming the wing. The lines are measured and once analysed are looped accordingly. This is very important on modern glider designs to maintain the performance and positive flight characteristics

The results of the check are recorded and documented in the check report. The inspection seal is affixed to the glider’s wing tip. The inspection seal has our stamp and is signed by the inspector. Please check the report for possible comments made by the examiners
