In 1987, SWING AG Switzerland emerged from the Zuberbühler sailmaking company. Günther began working for the company in 1988 as a test pilot and from 1989 as an importer for Germany. When the then owner of the company, Hans Ueli Zuberbühler, retired in 1994, Günther took over the management and, together with his wife Birgit, put all his energy into building up SWING. He moved the company headquarters to Bavaria and expanded the international sales network. “SWING is my life,” Günther says simply, summing up his commitment.
Ever since he was a child, he was passionate about flying, and Günther spent every free minute at the nearby sports airfield. That’s why he decided to train as an aircraft mechanic. Although he also passed the master craftsman’s examination, he found that he preferred working with people rather than machines. So he trained as a business administrator and enjoyed working as a sales engineer at Hoechst for the next few years until he joined SWING.
“Flying has accompanied me all my life,” Günther recounts. In 1987, he started paragliding, followed by paramotoring and ultralight. “Flying is something that doesn’t exist elsewhere in life. It opens up an additional dimension for me,” says Günther, describing his enthusiasm for flying. And so on of his big goals is to find more time for flying again in the coming years, alongside work and family.
