Who is the NYRA RS for?

In our current product range, the NYRA RS positions itself perfectly as an accessible mid-B wing, bridging the gap between the MIURA RS (low-B) and the STELLAR RS (high-B).
Pilots with some initial experience in thermal flying and an active piloting style will find it easy to transition to the NYRA RS. Even certified pilots flying around 30 to 50 hours per year can seamlessly step up to this versatile wing.

Core Section

On paragliders with RAST the canopy is divided into different internal pressurised sections by one or more fabric panels, some with valves running crossways to the direction of flight. This makes it possible to influence the air flows within the canopy.

With RAST, the air equalisation flows within the paraglider canopy can be regulated through defined openings. This applies both when filling,(during take-off) and when emptying. In the case of pressure loss, e.g. caused by canopy collapse in turbulent air, the relative internal pressure of the CORE section increases, while the BUFFER section absorbs the introduced energy by deformation. Furthermore, RAST can be used as an additional support to the leading and trailing edge, which has a positive effect on flight comfort. As RAST connects the ribs over the entire profile height, the construction has a stiffening effect and reinforcements and/or stiffening elements can be saved or even completely replaced by this special construction method.

For the NYRA RS, RAST was optimised for the following characteristics:

For the NYRA RS, RAST has been fine-tuned to provide a comfortable and compact flight experience with neutral pitch behavior and high canopy stability, even with its lightweight
construction and minimal line attachment points.

The NYRA RS is part of our D-LITE series, where a premium and durable material mix
meets a semi-lightweight structure. Weighing as little as 3.7 kg, the canopy is not only
remarkably light but also 100% suited for XC and everyday use, making it a robust
alternative to ultra-light products.

Premium Material Selection

The D-LITE Series stands out with a carefully balanced material mix:
Durable fabrics: Used in high-stress areas like the leading edge and load-bearing
ribs to ensure durability.
Lightweight fabrics: Applied in less stressed areas to reduce weight without
compromising stability.

Reinforcements and Detailing

Profile reinforcements: Targeted reinforcements in profiles, V-stripes, and load-
relief bands enhance the internal structure’s stability.
Crossport optimization: The number and size of crossports are precisely aligned
with profile load paths, ensuring the perfect balance between weight savings and
structural integrity.
Differentiated loop constructions: Loops are weight-optimized through tailored
designs and reinforcements corresponding to load distribution.

Practical Features

Minimal Nitinol wires at the leading edge and upper surface enable easy, compact packing
while maintaining profile integrity. The NYRA RS doesn’t require extra care in everyday use
to retain its performance.

Nitinol, a high-strength, temperature-resistant, and corrosion-resistant shape-memory alloy, is used by SWING as one of the first paraglider manufacturers to enhance nose reinforcement.

The Nitinol reinforcements, combined with short nylon wires at the profile nose, ensure a permanently sharp leading edge and maximum profile fidelity. With 35% coverage at the leading edge, the Nitinol wires protect the paraglider fabric from premature wear. The upper surface reinforcements are minimized to avoid excess weight while ensuring resistance to kinks, temperature, and moisture. This ensures that no unintended deformations impact the NYRA RS’s performance, even if it is not perfectly packed or stored.

An adapted sharknose profile increases internal pressure at the front of the canopy at low angles of attack, providing optimal stability during high-speed flight. The sharknose is maintained in perfect shape using SWING’s Hybrid FlexEdge  Technology, uniquely combining the advantages of Nitinol and nylon wires.

The NYRA RS features an optimized line geometry designed for weight reduction, speed, and easy application of big ears.
● Material mix: Encased main lines paired with uncoated Aramid gallery lines of the latest generation.
● Pro Dry coating: Reduces moisture absorption by 60%, improves UV resistance, and enhances dirt resistance.
● Visibility: Lines are colored magenta, blue, and orange for easy identification and sorting.
● Durability: High line stiffness minimizes knot formation during use.

The SWING C-Bridge E.P.C. (Easy Pitch Control)  connects the C-riser and floating B-riser through a pulley system with high- quality Ronstan rollers, enabling the NYRA RS, a three-liner, to be flown like a two-liner. Grip the C-risers below the line locks, rest your palm on the ergonomically shaped, neoprene-padded C-Bridge, and pull down vertically. This shortens the C and B risers in proportion, allowing precise control of the angle of attack without distorting the profile. This makes the NYRA RS particularly effective for turbulence compensation and pitch control during high-speed flights.

SWING AirFlow+ Airflow Alignment

The NYRA RS’s ribs are aligned with airflow from the center to the wingtips, combined with double 3D shaping at the leading edge and mini ribs at the trailing edge. This ensures maximum aerodynamic efficiency.

The NYRA RS’s line geometry is designed for stable and effective big ears. This easy-to- execute rapid descent method is reliable at trim speed, full speed, and even in turbulence. The outer wing’s last section requires active reopening by the pilot after execution.

The NYRA RS allows for simple trim and symmetry checks:

● All main lines on each level (A1/B1/C1, A2/B2/C2, etc.) are the same length for easy comparison.
● A special marking on the brake line at the trailing edge enables quick length comparison with an A-line.

● Lightweight brake handles: Magnetic Fidlock fastening and swivels prevent line twists.
● High-quality pulleys: Ronstan rollers for the speed system and C- and B-riser pulley system.
● Nylon rods: Reinforce the leading edge for consistent shaping.
● Mini ribs: Reduce ballooning and ensure a clean trailing edge.
● Dirt channel: Automatically directs debris to the outer wing.
● 3D shaping: Single or double shaping minimizes wrinkling.

TESTIMONIALS

What Maurizio Bottegal says – SWING R&D

Maurizio Botegal SWING R&DThe NYRA RS brings together the standout features of the Serac RS and Arcus 2 RS, infused with the DNA of the Stellar RS, creating an “incredible all-round machine.”

Our vision was to combine the best aspects of these three wings into a solid, accessible intermediate mid-B glider. In short, the NYRA RS is the “younger sibling” of the Stellar RS.

From the moment you launch, the NYRA RS impresses with its sleek design. Its RAST system, renowned for its depowering capabilities, ensures effortless and straightforward takeoffs, even in challenging terrain or stronger winds. During its development, we focused on creating a profile that delivers high levels of safety and the maximum flying performance for both talented beginners and ambitious recreational pilots.

The NYRA RS integrates the semi-light risers of the Stellar RS with efficient pitch control technology and an intuitive speed system. The RAST system provides precise control, especially in tricky situations, ensuring maximum comfort so you can focus on your first long cross-country flights and thermals. Landing is intuitive, with its natural and simple flare making the process effortless.

Flying the NYRA RS is pure safety and fun. It allows pilots to fully embrace the joy of flying. As we’ve said about the “Art of Flying,” the NYRA RS embodies it perfectly—it is the “Art of Flying.” The NYRA RS takes the work out of flying, letting you focus 100% on your passion and the exhilaration of flight.
