The SPHERA 2 RS Release -Info

Published On: Thursday 14. May, 2026

Many pilots are already waiting impatiently for the new SPHERA 2 RS. Ahead of the official market release, here is a short status update on where we stand and on certification.

The SPHERA 2 RS is a pure-bred XC competition performance 2-liner. It is built for experienced pilots who are looking for more than a classic EN-C 2-liner and who consciously want to take the step into a higher performance segment.

Development

An important step in development was the deployment of a final prototype by Matthias Wehrle in Colombia. There the wing was flown under real XC conditions on longer distances. The feedback from those flights confirmed a clear performance increase over the SPHERA RS (first generation), while flight behavior was once again more accessible for the planned EN-D performance class.

Alongside Matthias Wehrle, Tim Huber also made his first flights this spring on the near-final SPHERA 2 RS. Both were impressed by the performance and by the exceptionally easy handling.

First strong XC flights

Tim Huber flew 278.25 km from the Predigtstuhl on 02 May 2026, at an average of 32.09 km/h.

Matthias Wehrle flew 224.44 km the same day from the Hochblauen, in a flight time of 8:37 h at an average of 26.21 km/h.

Certification and current status

Flight tests are complete; certification is still in process. Sizes L and M have already achieved an EN-C rating. Size S is currently still being evaluated. As soon as the final results are available, they will be communicated.

None of this changes its original DNA: the SPHERA 2 RS was developed as a performance-oriented XC competition 2-liner for the EN-D performance segment. With 75 cells and an aspect ratio of 6.9, it sets clear demands on the pilot.

Target group

The SPHERA 2 RS is aimed at experienced XC and competition pilots who are looking for a high-performance 2-liner for long distances and demanding conditions. It is intended for pilots with solid EN-C experience, current performance-level SIV training, and a confident active flying style.

Market release

The official market release of the SPHERA 2 RS is just around the corner. With this wing we are also introducing our new SWING UNBOUND design language — we are looking forward to your feedback and your interest.
