Zillertal Battle 2024

Last weekend the legendary Zillertal Battle 2024 took place again – a competition where only EN-B gliders are accepted. Despite challenging conditions caused by a light southerly foehn with stable layering, two exciting tasks were flown. Our brand new EN-B 2.5 glider, the STELLAR RS, was flown by pilots Dietmar Siglbauer, Tim Huber, Matthias Wehrle and Roberto Paludetto as part of Team SWING, along with German League and PWC pilot Daniel Tyrkas. Daniel flew his STELLAR RS to a third place finish in the first task, and noted that first place would have been possible if he hadn’t arrived too high at the finish line, underestimating the glide performance of the class and the performance of the STELLAR RS. Team SWING was unlucky in the first task, as many pilots were forced to land early due to the difficult conditions. In the second task Daniel Tyrkas went all in and attacked with Dietmar Siegelbauer before the last turn point. However, both lost time in a weak thermal and finished with a slight time loss in 7th and 8th place.

In the overall ranking, Daniel Tyrkas took 6th place with the STELLAR RS, while Team SWING finished 9th in the team category.

All pilots were thrilled with the STELLAR RS. Tim Huber particularly liked its excellent thermal handling, saying that he’d never flown a Swing glider that turned so tightly without the fear of stalling. Matthias Wehrle was impressed by its uncomplicated extreme flight characteristics: a fully accelerated frontal collapse was absolutely harmless. Daniel Tyrkas, who normally flies only CCC wings, found the Stellar RS to be on a par with the leading competition and particularly appreciated its high stability even in accelerated flight. Congratulations to all pilots, and thank you for your participation.
